NYCHEA Roots & Shoots is a homeschool chapter of Roots & Shoots in New York City.

Founded by Dr. Jane Goodall, the Roots & Shoots program inspires youth of all ages to make a difference by becoming involved in their communities. This global program emphasizes the principle that knowledge leads to compassion, which inspires action. Today there are more than than 7,500 groups in over 90 countries. Each group plans and implements service-learning projects. Groups show care and concern in three areas: for animals, the environment, and the human community. For more information, please see the Roots & Shoots Web site.

NYCHEA Roots & Shoots is open to children of all ages with parent participation. The average age of our group is 11–13. For students age 14–18, Roots & Shoots offers leadership opportunities through their Youth Leadership Council, something we hope to grow into.
